Car seat recycling in #yeg....FINALLY

I am excited to hear that Weehelp, a local not for profit group in Edmonton, is taking in car seats to be recycled. Once they are received here, they are taken to Vancouver to be recycled.

So why is it good to recycle your car seat instead of just cutting the straps and putting it in the garbage?? There are a few!
  • It keeps unnecessary items from being put into the landfills
  • The plastic from the car seats can be broken down to make other items such as plastic patio furniture, butter tubs, and other children's products
  • Other items are disposed of correctly, efficiently, and the most environmentally friendly way as possible.

How can you recycle your car seat? Easy contact Weehelp through email @ info@weehelp.ca or call 780.717.0973

P.S.

A quick Shepherds Pie - Easy & tasty.

There are so many variations of shepherds pie but this is one that I love to make for my family.
It is a tasty dish that is quick and healthy. Isn't super expensive to make, and also freezes great.

What you will need
Potatoes
Cheddar cheese
Ground beef or turkey
Mixed vegetables- I used a green & yellow bean medley and some cauliflower cut into small pieces
Green onion - enough to garnish top
Salt & Pepper to taste
Garlic powder or fresh garlic (optional)
Casserole dish- size depends on how much you want to make.

Directions
Pre-heat oven to 350
Boil potatoes until they can be mashed.
Cook meat through- add in garlic, salt & pepper to taste.

While potatoes and meat are cooking shred enough cheese to mix in with mashed potatoes and also to sprinkle on top.

When meat is cooked mix in vegetables and spread in caserole dish
Mash potatoes with cheddar cheese and spread over meat/vegetable mixture
Sprinkle top with cheese and garnish with some green onion

Cook covered in oven for 30 minutes and serve hot.

What do you like to put into your Shepherds Pie??

Healthy v.s Budget friendly = Yummy Alpha Sprouts

Alpha Sprouts are great in salads, stir-fry's, and in sandwiches. Their nutritional content is also something to be excited about! High in Vitamin K, Calcium, Vitamin C, and so many other nutrients. They also have a low caloric content vs. the amount you can eat.

My family is always looking for ways to incorporate healthy options into our meals and for prices that are reasonable.
We recently purchased the Sprout Master so we could start growing our own Alpha Sprouts, which we all love in this household!

Sprout Master - $44.95
Mum's Alpha Sprouting Seeds - $4.29
Both were purchased from the Earth's General Store.

The Sprout Master will pay itself off way before we make our way through the first bag and the options for different seeds are awesome.
Check out the Mum's Sprouting Seeds website to see your seed choices, which can also be purchased at the Earth's General Store.

**Alternatively, if you are looking to make this budget friendly endeavor even more budget friendly, you can use a glass jar to grow your sprouts instead**

The amount of effort it takes to grow sprouts is not extensive. All you need to do it water/rinse the sprouts morning and evening and wait the necessary germination period to process. (depending on the sprout it is 5 to 7 days)

And then WALA you have got your sprouts!

**If you are worried about bacteria, preheat your oven to 350 degrees and "toast" them in the oven for 1-2 minutes this could kill some of the bacteria.  Take them out BEFORE they start to brown. This will give them a little more of a crunchy texture, but you can still use them whichever way you want to**

**Pregnant ladies and those with weakened immune systems should consider not eating these or use caution as the little heads can house E-Coli, which could be of great risk**

What have you grown or made lately that is budget friendly? We would love for you to share.
