Are you a busy mom? This may help.

Template printed from mommytracked.com
With me juggling such a busy schedule it is important for me to plan ahead and be organized.
I was having a hard time specifically with planning for posts for my business & blog as well as planning for healthy eating so I decided to google organization templates. After some searching I came across the Mommy Tracked website, which offers some free downloadable/printable templates for organization.

Pictured in this post are my 2 favourite templates which have become SO useful, and there are MANY more.

Template printed from mommytracked.com
If you want to make these templates or others into a DIY organization book or calendar,  one way to do it is to sign up for an online account for staples.ca and have them printed. You can print them in colour, have them laminated, and pick your paper preference. They can even bind it into a booklet for you.

Oh the possibilities are endless.

Have you found some awesome templates online or a good tool. Please share it :)

Maternity leave in Alberta

The nursery has been decorated, you are nesting, done work and it's time to figure out your Maternity EI benefits. However, the process of applying for Maternity EI benefits in Alberta may be overwhelming. Hopefully after reading this post you will have a pretty good idea of how and where to go - and will have successfully applied for your EI benefits.
In Alberta you are entitled to 52 weeks off of work for Maternity leave from your place of employment.  **Some situations are different and could depend on if a position is a contract or if there are different agreements made.**

If you are not sure what your rights are- or if you feel that your rights are being infringed upon you can always call labor standards (anonymously if need be) @ 1.877.427.3731

Do you Qualify:
In order to qualify for Maternity benefits you must have worked at least 600 hours of employment and have paid into EI benefits. You are eligible to apply and take your Maternity leave starting on your 8th week before your due date.

Maternity benefits are the first 15 weeks of your year off, the following weeks are technically refereed to as Parental leave and you or your partner is eligible to take the Parental leave.

Putting in an Application:
On your last day of work is technically when you should apply for Maternity benefits. Applying too early could effect your weeks that you are entitled to.
  • If you are receiving the full Maternity and Parental benefits you will only need to apply once which is at the beginning.
  • If your partner is applying for parental leave they will have to apply for it
  • Parental leave can be the entire 35 weeks or it can be taken for less time, to a minimum of 2 weeks.
You can apply for your Maternity benefits here

Your work will either give you a Record of Employment (ROE) or if you are lucky they will submit your ROE on your behalf. This will be on your last day before going on leave (ideally)
If you have to submit the ROE yourself you will need to go to a Service Canada Branch to drop it off or send it via mail.
You can find the location closest to you here

Maternity benefits payments:
Your benefits are only paid out for 50 of your 52 weeks that you have off. That means you will not receive your benefits right away, as there is a 2-week waiting period. You however should have received your login information to log onto the Service Canada website to check and see how the processing of your Maternity benefits are proceeding.

**If it has been over 2 weeks, call and inquire. With my second child it took a month for my benefits to be deposited into my account, and it was due to some miniscule piece of information that was quickly entered within seconds. **
(The great thing is that my money was deposited into my account within 24hours)

If you have questions you can call this number - 1.800.206.7218

**HINT** Try calling first thing in the morning when they open. So many people call this number that they generally don’t even have enough room for people to wait on hold.

You will receive 55% of your of insurable earnings up to a maximum of $514 per week.
MAKE SURE THEY ARE TAKING TAXES OFF OF YOUR EI BENEFITS!!!
I unfortunately didn’t catch this during my first Maternity leave and I ended up owing in taxes, which is a big deal when you are only receiving 55% of your regular wage.

Hopefully this post has been informative and has helped you along the process of applying for your benefits.  If this post was helpful to you, please leave a comment. Thanks for reading and congrats to you :)

Until next time
~Christine~

Ebates.ca - Getting paid to shop

I have recently discovered www.ebates.ca and I am hooked!

Signing up is easy -
Email
Choose a password
Put down the persons email that referred you (I didn't fill this in because I found this website on my own)
Click Enter

The basics of ebates.ca is that they receive a commission for sending customers to various online stores and instead of keeping the full commission, they offer a certain amount back to you, the shopper. They have a variety of well known businesses such as Old Navy Canada, Sears Overstocks, Carters/OshGosh, Mexx, Keurig Canada, and so many more.
Four times a year ebates will send you a cheque, deposit the money into your Pay Pal account, or send it to your charity of choice for no added cost

Tonight I shopped online @ Old Navy Canada. I spent $82.02 on my purchase and will receive $3.28 towards my ebate cheque. While that does not seem like a lot - I got paid to shop and I didn't really do anything different, AND its $3.28 more in my pocket.

**For a limited time, ebates.ca is automatically giving each new customer a $5 credit **

How can you maximize your ebates earning potential?
  • If there is a gift you have to buy or you know there is a store that advertises on ebate, then go through ebates to shop.
  • Going on a trip? Check out what travel options are available through the website
  • Keep up to date on the ebates deals & offers.
Until next time

Massage, Acupuncture, & Chiropractic care during pregnancy

For the last month I have been seeing a massage therapist, acupuncturist, and chiropractor.
For me it's not because I am pregnant - but some of it was caused when I was pregnant.
Oh Carpel Tunnel - my nemesis. Add in a little bit of horrible posture, cut off  to proper blood circulation, enter numb hands!
BUT it's getting better, which means that by the time April comes when I am suppose to meet the Carpel Tunnel surgeon I may not have to actually go and have the Carpel Tunnel surgery.

However this got me thinking, why didn't I utilize all or some of these treatment's when I was pregnant?????

Massage, acupuncture, or chiropractic adjustments are a great way to relieve the aches and pain that come along with pregnancy. With all that added weight that your body takes on there is pressure on all parts of yours body, these options can be a great way to ease that discomfort. With 2/3 of pregnant ladies experiencing morning sickness one or all of these services can also be an option to aid in relieving that nasty feeling of nausea. Also, if you are past your due date, these options can also be used as an effective method for potentially starting the process of labour. (Just make sure the person(s) that you seek out for these treatment's are qualified and experienced in these particular areas)

I also think it is important to mention that massage, acupuncture, and chiropractic adjustments can assist with depression be it if you use it as a independent treatment or in conjunction with the aid of medication. During my second pregnancy there was a period where I experienced some Antepartum depression. Looking back now, I could have really benefitted from one or all of these treatments during that difficult time.

So who do I see for these services???
My acupuncturist/massage therapist's name is Holly. She works out of Larocque Health Center(10049-81 Ave NW) and she is awesome!!! If you are in the market for a massage therapist/acupuncturist you can call (780) 433-9828 to book an appointment with Holly.

My chiropractor is Dr. Kris from Live Well Chiropractic. Both Dr. Kris and his wife Dr. Jenney own/work in the practice. The first thing you see when you walk into clinic is various patients holding signs saying what they have been relieved from. With me being a visual person I enjoy seeing those personal real life stories! You can check out Live Well Chiropractic on their website here: http://www.livewelledmonton.com/

On a tight budget???
A more cost effective option for those that are looking for services but maybe don't have benefits to offset the costs you can access the MacEwan student clinics for massage & acupuncture. (I am still on a look out for chiropractor schools but have yet to find anything)
To inquire/book an appointment for massage:
Phone: 780-497-4102
Email: massageclinic@macewan.ca

To inquire/book an appointment for acupuncture:
Phone: 780-497-4610

Until next time have a great day!!!
